Roycefield Swim Club is currently accepting applications for the positions described below. Please see the bottom of the page for Hiring Policies and Practices.
College individual or older who has had previous Lifeguard experience. Additionally, the individual must exhibit good managerial qualities, either through previous Roycefield employment or via substantiating letters from previous employers. Red Cross Lifeguard certification is required; Certified Pool Operator certification a plus. Certifications must be effective by pool opening and must remain valid through Labor Day. The position reports to the Vice President of Administration.
Red Cross Certified Lifeguard in good standing (certification must be completed by pool opening and remain valid through Labor Day). The position reports to the Roycefield Pool Manager. Lifeguards also perform other duties, which include but are not limited to, pool entrance gatekeeper, and general pool and grounds maintenance. Lifeguards may be assigned other duties as necessary.
Swim Lesson Coordinator(s)
Swim Lesson Coordinators are responsible for scheduling and supervising all swim lessons and swim instructors. They develop and provide curricula for each skill level and ensure proper implementation of curricula. Candidates must be lifeguard certified and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. The position reports to Vice President of Administration or other Trustee designee.
Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching Roycefield’s swim lesson program. Instructors must be 14 years of age or older and be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic water safety and correct stroke technique for all four basic strokes. The position reports to the Swim Lesson Coordinator(s). Swim Instructors work one-week sessions as scheduled throughout the summer for approximately 1.5 hours per day and may be scheduled for private lessons as available. Preference will be given to those individuals that hold another position at the swim club.
Roycefield Rapids Swim Team Positions
The Roycefield Rapids swim team is now hiring coaches for the upcoming 2021 swim season. We will hire any combination of the positions described below based on applicant experience and Roycefield Rapid roster numbers****. Coaching positions start the first Tuesday after Memorial Day and usually end the first week in August, based on the NJSDC schedule. Preference will be given to individuals with full availability during this period.
College individual or older who is swimming or has swum competitively. Preference will be given to an individual with prior coaching experience and the ability and willingness to work well with swimmers of different ages and abilities, other coaches, the Rapids Booster Club Board, and team parents. Excellent communication skills are a must. The desired candidate for Head Coach should be available to attend all swim practices and meets, and will be responsible for writing workouts and meet lineups. This position reports to the Vice President of Swim Team.
1st Assistant Coach
College individual or older who is swimming or has swum competitively. Preference will be given to an individual with prior coaching experience and the ability and willingness to work well with swimmers of different ages and abilities, other coaches, the Rapids Booster Club Board, and team parents. Excellent communication skills are a plus. The desired candidate for 1st Assistant Coach should be available to attend all swim meets and practices as assigned. The position reports to the Head Swim Coach and the Vice President of Swim Team.
High School Student or older who is swimming or has swum for the Roycefield Rapids and is a certified lifeguard. Preference will be given to individuals with an availability to attend all assigned practices and meets. The duties of this position include but are not limited to, helping coach, serving as a lifeguard for the younger swimmers during practices, and assisting with some responsibilities during swim meets. The position is supervised by the Head and 1st Assistant Coach with guidance from the Vice President of Swim Team.
****Please note the number of coaching positions available will be dependent upon staffing needs (such as number of swimmers, age of swimmers and expectations of the season) As such, some coaching positions may or may not be filled until mid-May.
Roycefield Hiring Policy
Applications for employment at the Roycefield Swim Club are reviewed by two separate committees. For manager, lifeguards, and swim lesson ans social positions, the Trustee Hiring Committee will screen incoming applications, interview candidates as appropriate, and presents recommendations to the Roycefield Swim Club Board of Trustees. For swim team positions, the Vice President of Swim Team (with input from the Roycefield Rapids Booster Club Board), will screen incoming applications, interview candidates as appropriate, and make recommendations to the Trustee Hiring Committee and then to the RSC Board of Trustees. These committees take into account the previous year’s performance reviews and interim experience gains.
The Roycefield Board is committed to hiring Roycefield members and developing our employees to be able to fulfill the future management needs of the Club. As such, preference for all positions will be given to candidates in the following order:
- existing employees with relevant experience and good performance ratings from the previous season.
- Roycefield Swim Club owners/members in good standing (for entry level positions),
- past pool members with relevant experience
- non-Roycefield candidates.
Special consideration will be given to Lifeguards that can work through Labor Day. Applicants under the age of 18 must supply working papers. Applicants over the age of 18 will be subject to background checks.
Current-year salaries will be reviewed at the March board meeting. Wage ranges and criteria for each position will be available to all Roycefield Swim Club members upon request. Salaries and expectations for each position will be included in all job offers. With the expectation of applications for the Rapids assistant coaching position(s), applicants will be notified in April if they are or are not being offered a position for the upcoming season. The number of assistant coaching positions is dependent on roster numbers. Assistant coaching applicants will be notified by mid-May.
