The Roycefield Rapids Swim Team
Want to know more about the Roycefield Rapids? Some facts....
What are we?
The Rapids are members of the New Jersey Swimming & Diving Conference. The Conference consists of 28 teams divided into leagues, based on team strength and the previous season record. Roycefield will compete in the A league in the 2011 season.
Am I eligible?
The team is open to all members ages 5 to 18 who are able to swim at least one length of the pool. Swimmers compete in one of five age groups: 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. The league has a diving conference but Roycefield does not have a diving team.
When are practices scheduled?
Team practices start on the Tuesday after Memorial Day and are held on Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri until school ends. Children are assigned to one of three groups, based on ability. During school, practices are held between 3:30pm & 7:00pm. When school is finished the practice groups move to mornings (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri) between 7:45am & 11am.
What meets do we compete in?
The team competes in 9 dual meets, League Championships, Conference Championships, and the Roycefield Sprint Meet. There are also special meets in which some team members may participate. These extra meets will be posted at the pool.
The Dual Meets are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings beginning the last week in June and ending in July.
League Championships are traditionally held on the last Saturday in July and the Conference Championships are traditionally held the following Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Team runs the Roycefield Sprint Meet in which all team members and PARENTS are expected to participate. This one day meet raises several thousand dollars for the team.
What does the Booster Club do?
The team is supported by a Booster Club who assesses a registration fee (per swimmer basis), which covers, coaching, a team memento (t-shirt, gym bag, etc. with the team name), entry fees to league championships, the end-of-season picnic, and miscellaneous team expenses.
Parents are required to be active either on the Booster Club or by performing one of the many jobs it takes to run the meets, such as timers, officials, food sellers, scorers, ribbon writers, 50/50 sellers, or announcer. Parents are required to work at least four dual meets, as well as the Roycefield Sprint meet.
All children of the Club are encouraged to join the swim team. Sign-up information is available by clicking on the link below. Please contact the coach with further questions.
